ePrescribing inside the clinical workflow.
When enabled for an authorized prescriber, PRIME opens an integrated electronic prescribing experience from the patient chart so the clinician can review medications, select a therapy and transmit an electronic prescription to the pharmacy selected for that prescription.
How ePrescribing is used in PRIME
The prescribing workflow is initiated by an authorized clinician during or after a patient encounter. Relevant patient and medication context is made available to the connected prescribing service, the prescriber reviews and authorizes the prescription, and the prescription is transmitted electronically through supported pharmacy-network connectivity.
Open patient chart
Authorized prescriber starts ePrescribing for the selected patient.
Select medication
The prescriber independently selects the medication, strength, instructions and quantity.
Select pharmacy
The patient may choose the pharmacy to which the prescription is sent, subject to supported network availability.
Transmit & track
The prescribing service transmits the electronic prescription and returns available status information to the workflow.
Prescriber choice. Patient pharmacy choice.
PRIME does not select a medication on behalf of the prescriber and does not require a patient to use a particular pharmacy. The licensed prescriber remains responsible for the prescribing decision. The patient may identify a preferred pharmacy and may request a different supported pharmacy for an individual prescription.
Pharmacy and pharmaceutical connections
PRIME is designed to connect to pharmacies through an integrated electronic-prescribing service and pharmacy-network connectivity. Additional medication-history, formulary, benefit, controlled-substance and electronic prior-authorization capabilities may be enabled depending on the subscribed service and provider onboarding.
Third-party services and availability may vary by configuration, state requirements and executed agreements.
